A new time-lapse video from 2015 is out showing FERMAT’s gargantuan WRF 160 Heavy z 1600 getting assembled, piece by piece, in Brno, Czech Republic. From a well-machined, sturdy bed rises the largest class of titanic CNC horizontal boring mills, stacked, fastened and fitted with all its intricate parts, into a towering beast that eats cast iron and steel for breakfast.
The frame and the bed are made up of high grade of cast iron in one piece which allows for maximum cutting performance and vibration absorption. The thick casting walls and reinforcement ribs give the machine unsurpassed rigidity and prevent any bending or twisting that may affect machining accuracy. All casting parts had been fully annealed to guarantee long-term accuracy for this class of precision machines. All structure has been done by CAD/CAE analysis.

Universal milling head with automatic indexing 2,5°/2,5° or 1°/1°, automatically attached to the headstock, with quick hydraulic automatic tool clamping and unclamping. "UQ series" architecture was designed to give the machine the utmost rigidity and dynamics, maximizing the working area saving the space requirement. Small medium pieces can also be easily positioned and machined. The excellent visibility of the working area allows the operator to supervise the machining with the highest precision and reliability. The simple design and the easy access to the working area also allow the operator to load and unload the work piece with over-head crane very easily. Its dimensions, in fact, were calculated to make it suitable for the space usually foreseen for this kind of machine tool. The spindle head adapted with direct driven spindle of 12000 rpm.
The 2 CYTEC (GERMAN) axes tilting head with C axis with 800/1300 Nm torque and braking force of 4000 Nm, and swivel speed of 360 degree/sec. A axis with 800/1300 Nm torque and braking system of 4000 Nm and also swivel speed of 260 degree/sec. which can provide high torque of cutting requirement. The spindle temperature is kept constant by use of an oil re-circulate heat exchanger as standard which reduces heat generation. Harmonized temperature between spindle head and machine body assures minimum spindle expansion at high speed rotation in long time continuous use.
The UG800 series is the synthesis of the rising generation of overhead gantry type vertical machining centers. Its performance dynamic is increased by the rigidity of the structure which is manufactured with normalized Meehanite Cast iron, suitably ribbed for extra strength. All casting parts had been fully annealed to guarantee long term accuracy for this precise machine. The FEM design method, it has been possible to obtain structural elements which easily combine the stability of geometrical precision (axis linearity remains well below 10 ?m) with the conspicuous acceleration dynamism of the machining units.
